Advancement in the hyaluronic acid & serum based knee injections

The Challenge / Concern:

Intraarticular hyaluronic acid or hyaluronan formulations are recommended for osteoarthritis. It is injected in joints such as knee for relief from osteoarthritis. Long lasting efficacy of the treatment is desired, as several injections are needed in an year.

Brief (and non-confidential) Solution

Intermediate molecular weight hyaluronic acid was found to yield better outcomes. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is known to be a therapy in osteoarthritis. Growth factors in PRP not only reduce pain, but facilitate rejuvenation of local cells. We developed a combination of PRP and hyaluronic acid that can offer better efficacy in osteoarthritis. PRP from serum of the patient found to offer synergistic effect when administered along with hyaluronic acid. Proper formulation of hyaluronic acid intraarticular dose was concluded along with the promising protocol for combined administration with PRP.
