Aerators manufactured from fly ash composites

The Challenge / Concern:

Fly ash is the material of global concern produced at the numerous coal fired plants. Value added product with engineering rigor was desired that would consume significant quantities of fly ashes of varying composition. A technology was requested with such anticipation.

Brief (and non-confidential) Solution

Aerators are the porous and sturdy materials widely used to introduce gases in liquids. Principally, they are used in water treatment plants for operation of aeration, and also in chemical processes. We developed the rigid and porous material by using suitable scaffolds for fly ash. These materials after primary treatment were found to have desired strength and modulus. They can be casted to have specific shapes and cross sections. Testing of 3 samples was conducted in control environment for aeration in water, and found to have satisfactory control on air flow rate and diffusion.
