Sub-critical extraction of Quercetin from varied feedstock

The Challenge / Concern:

Quercetin is a phytochemical of greatest therapeutics potential. It occurs as very small fraction of some vegetables and plant parts. Due to the marginal presence, extraction technology of highest yield is desired. Typical extraction routes doesn’t make quercetin recovery feasible.

Brief (and non-confidential) Solution

Subcritical solvent offers precise extraction of the materials of varying polarities. Subcritical processes with water are feasible due to affordable pressure and temperature ranges. We developed the optimum pressure for water which yields highest yield of quercetin. The protocol is compatible with variation in the feedstock composition. Hence recovery of quercetin from the variety of biomass waste can be done with relatively less resources. Special vessel has been prototyped.
